Established in March 1975 as Defence Force Credit Union Limited (Defcredit), Defence Bank has since rebranded to its current name in 2012. With the highest number of on-base branches nationwide, Defence Bank continues to serve the Australian community with dedication and excellence.

Key Objectives of the New Workplace Design

Defense Bank, embarked on a transformative journey to redefine its workplace, recognising the need for a dynamic environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and employee well-being. The goal was to create a workplace that not only supported daily operations but also reflected the company's culture, commitment to excellence, client satisfaction, and employee experience.

Workplace Approach:

The foundation of the redesign was centered around a flexible and collaborative workplace approach. An open and inclusive layout was adopted to encourage interaction, communication, and teamwork among employees. The aim was to break down silos and facilitate a sense of unity among diverse teams. Circulation and movement around the workplace were designed to support this.

Secure FOH Appropriate Meeting Spaces:

Understanding the importance of client interactions, and employee privacy and safety special emphasis was placed on designing secure Front-of-House (FOH) meeting spaces. These areas were strategically located to ensure privacy and confidentiality while providing a welcoming environment for clients.

Knowledge Sharing:

To promote knowledge sharing, a variety of collaborative spaces were integrated, including designated project rooms, brainstorming zones, and communal lounges. The goal was to encourage spontaneous discussions and cross-functional collaboration, fostering an environment where ideas could grow and be supported.

Innovative Workspace:

Innovation was at the forefront of the design process. The workspace was equipped with cutting-edge technologies and creative tools to inspire out-of-the-box thinking. Flexible furniture arrangements allowed employees to customise their workstations, fostering a sense of ownership and creativity.

Seamless Technology:

Investments in seamless technology were made to ensure a connected and efficient work environment. High-speed internet, smart meeting rooms, and integrated communication tools were implemented to eliminate barriers and enhance collaboration, both internally and with clients.

Improved Employee Experience:

The design aimed at enhancing the overall employee experience by incorporating comfortable and ergonomic furniture, well-lit spaces, and amenities like recreational areas and breakout zones. The result was a workplace that not only met professional needs but also supported the physical and mental well-being of employees.

Co-location of Office Staff:

Teams that needed close collaboration were strategically co-located within the office space. This physical proximity facilitated quicker decision-making, streamlined communication, and strengthened team dynamics.

Agile Project Spaces:

Agile project spaces were created to accommodate the evolving nature of projects. These spaces allowed teams to adapt quickly to changing requirements, ensuring a dynamic and responsive approach to project management.

Knowledge Sharing Throughout the Business:

Regular training sessions, knowledge-sharing forums, and technology-driven platforms were implemented to ensure continuous learning and information dissemination throughout the organization. This fostered a culture of curiosity and innovation.

Wellness Retreat and Reflection Spaces:

Recognising the importance of employee well-being, dedicated wellness retreat and reflection spaces were designed. These areas offered a peaceful escape for employees to recharge, meditate, or simply reflect, contributing to a holistic and balanced work environment.
